What are the top museums to visit in Miami

Whether you’re a local or a visitor looking for something fun and educational to do, museums are a great option. From world-class contemporary art galleries to state-of-the-art scientific institutions, Miami is home to a wide variety of top-notch museums for every interest.

We’ve evaluated expert and user opinions to bring you a list of the best museums to visit in Miami. From museums dedicated to Haitian heritage to those highlighting the city’s diverse culture, these top Miami museums are sure to entertain and educate.

The Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) was one of the first of its kind to embrace modern and contemporary art, which is a big part of what makes it unique. The museum has many exhibits that change with the seasons, so you can expect a new experience each time you visit. The museum is also home to a restaurant and a beautiful outdoor sculpture garden. The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA-Miami) encourages creativity and community by promoting the work of emerging and under-recognized artists. Located in the Design District, visitors can enjoy exhibitions that feature many different styles of art. ICA-Miami is free for all and welcomes families to come and explore the museum together.

In a city that is famous for its beaches, it’s important to give the children in your group an opportunity to see the other side of Miami. The Miami Children’s Museum is a place that will let them learn through interactive and fun experiences about the environment, art, history, and other cultures around the world. The museum has 14 exhibits that are all designed to spark the imagination of kids, ages 2-13. The museum is open daily and has a gift shop.

A large collection of contemporary art has found a permanent home at the Miami Beach Museum of Art and Cultural Center (Museum of Contemporary Arts, Miami, aka MOCA-Miami). The Museum of Contemporary Arts, Miami, is housed in a former public library built in an Art Deco style. Its massive space features rounded walls and hanging gardens with more than 54,000 plants. The collection boasts pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Jeff Koons, among others.

The Bass Museum of Art is another great art destination for those visiting the city. This museum is located in an Art Deco building that has been renovated to include additional gallery space, a cafe by Thierry Isambert, and the Creativity Center. Inside, visitors can view a number of art installations, including a large-scale piece by Ugo Rondinone that overlooks Collins Park.

If you’re looking for a museum that is a bit more low-key, you can always check out the Broward County Science Museum. This museum doesn’t have the sexy rooftop or the IMAX theater of its Miami counterpart, but it does offer an opportunity to ride an airboat through a mocked-up Everglades and watch the otters do their adorable otter-y things. It also has a hurricane simulator so you can feel what it’s like to be in the middle of one of South Florida’s most destructive weather events.
